Question from a Bride and Groom . .

What is something most Brides and Grooms forget?

Response . .

The keys to their car, the keys to their house or apartment.  In all of the excitement of getting to the ceremony site or reception hall or taking their first limousine ride, Moms, Dads, Brides, Grooms, and members of the wedding party forget to grab their keys.

I is for Ice cream machine.  If you are a couple who loves to entertain then consider adding an ice cream or frozen yogurt or sherbet making machine to your bridal shower or wedding gift registry.

I was once associated with a Bride and Groom who made as assortment of  ice cream flavors for their own small wedding reception.  Several small batches were made in advance, and then stored in the freezer.  They were very proud of their accomplishment.

H is for handbag, bridal handbag.  For many years, a Bride carried a balloon shaped handbag from the ceremony location to the reception.  And the purpose of that handbag was to hold wedding or gift envelopes that contained cash or checks.

Recently, that handbag has been replaced with some type of box or container that is usually positioned on the gift table and today's Bride carries a smaller, decorative handbag or clutch bag.

Don't forget to add baskets and/or storage containers to your bridal shower or wedding gift registry, especially, if your home is short on closets or storage space.

Question from a Bride and Groom . .

What food item can we give our guests as they depart from a morning wedding reception?

Response . .

Put two fresh glazed donuts in a clear plastic cellophane bag.  Who doesn't like a donut with a cup of coffee in the morning?

At 2PM on June 2 1998, on a day at sea between Venice and Naples, the captain of the "Grand Princess" performed the "first wedding at sea in recent memory."

Do not assume that all cruise lines permit legal wedding ceremonies performed "at sea".  You may have to have your ceremony performed before the ship leaves your home port or you may have to  make arrangements to get married in one of the ports of call during your cruise.

Traditionally, the Bride and Groom give each other a piece of jewelry as their wedding gift to each other.  What Bride wouldn't like a pair of diamond earrings?  Diamond studs match everything.

Did you know that most engagements occur during the period from mid-November (Thanksgiving) through mid-February (Valentine's Day)?  And that's why most bridal shows occur in January, February, and March.

F is for File cabinet.  If you have a lot of "important papers" that needed to be accessed quickly then invest in a metal file cabinet for your home.   If you do not have or want a safe deposit box in a bank's vault, then a good quality metal file cabinet with a lock may solve some of your security or protection problems.

Every Bride and Groom has a "paper trail" of personal documents that should be organized and easily accessible.  Do you know where your your high school diploma is located?

Traditionally, the Bride and Groom give each other a gift of jewelry as a wedding gift.  The Bride's gift is usually sent to her as she dresses or prepares for the wedding so it can be worn when she "walks down the aisle."

What Bride wouldn't like to receive this tennis bracelet?

E is for Etiquette, wedding Etiquette.  One of the very first things that you should do when you become a "serious couple" is to become familiar with engagement, bridal shower, pre-wedding, wedding, and post wedding etiquette.

Did you know that the engaged couple should not host (plan, organize and pay for) their own engagement party unless there are no other alternatives?

Did you know that your Mother or the Groom's Mother should not host a bridal shower?

Did you know that you should your guests have up to one year to give you a wedding gift?

Etiquette means . . applying common sense, caring, and respect to a situation.

D is for Dinnerware.  Before you walk into a department store or a speciality store that has a huge assortment of glassware, silverware and dinnerware, you should have a very good idea of whether you plan on having one set or two sets of dinnerware.  One would be earmarked "for everyday" and the other set would be used for semi-formal and formal entertaining.  And if you only plan to register for or purchase one set of dinnerware, then this set should be durable enough for daily use, and yet, sophisticated enough for the Thanksgiving dinner table.

The bridal magazines are filled with advertisements from bridal registry stores and manufactures of dinnerware.  Start your research with the internet and the bridal periodicals so you have a very good idea of what a "five piece place setting" looks like or how various types of dinnerware are sold.

C is for Cellular Phone.  It may be to your advantage to look into a cellular phone "package deal" once you become engaged or married.  Investigate the various plans for more than one phone before you renew your current plan or contract.  Look for ways to save now that you are "a couple".

D is for Drop dead gorgeous.  If you are getting married on Valentine's Day (or that week or weekend) then red hot high heels should be worn by the Bride and her bridesmaids.  Think red.

C is for Chandeliers.  A chandelier can add sparkle to a non-descript or plain room.  And three chandeliers can add three times as much elegance and sparkle.  Treat yourself to one of the many sparkles that you can buy in your life.

B is for Bedroom furniture.  Before you list the size of bed linens that you would like on your bridal shower or wedding gift registry, you should have a very good idea of what size bed you plan to use or plan to purchase.

I once knew a Bride and Groom who received 15 different sets of pink sheets as a wedding gift.  All of their close friends bought the pink sheets "as a joke."

A is for Air Mattress.  Is your sister coming to your apartment for the wedding weekend?  Are some close friends coming to your parents' home the week of your wedding?  Do you need an extra bed or two for your Matron of Honor and her two children who are staying with the Maid of Honor for two nights?  Think easy to pull out, easy to put away air mattress.

If you are planning on doing your own makeup on your wedding day, you should apply that makeup at least one week in advance to see what that makeup looks like during daylight hours and evening hours.  Are you pleased?  Do you need to make adjustments?  Do you feel confident applying your own makeup?

Question of the week . .

Do you know of any Bride and Groom who used a movie or Broadway show theme for their wedding?

Or the music from a Broadway show or movie during their ceremony or reception?

Question . .

What can we serve our wedding guests right after a 930AM wedding ceremony on our porch that is going to take very little time to set up?

Response . .

You can't go wrong with a bowl of fresh fruit, fruit breads, muffins, coffee and tea.  Buy or borrow an extra coffee pot so you don't run out.

Y is for Yoga.  The definition of yoga is . . a mystic and ascetic Hindu discipline for achieving union with the supreme spirit through meditation, prescribed postures and controlled breathing.

Planning a wedding ceremony and reception is very stressful so if you find yourself in a position where planning your wedding has affected your emotional and/or physical being than consider taking a yoga class for stress relief and a diversion.

X is for Xray.  On more than one occasion I have been asked to perform a wedding ceremony because either the Bride or Groom is about to lose their medical insurance coverage.  When situations change, people have to change their plans.

W is for White Sale.  Traditionally, sheets, comforters, bedspreads, mattress covers and towels were put "on sale" in January and August, and those sales were called "White Sales."  If you need "good linens" take advantage of those white sales.

Don't wait until you hear "Here Comes the Bride" to decide what lipstick you're going to wear when you walk down the aisle.  You should know at least one week in advance of your wedding day what lipstick you are going to use, and then buy two tubes of that shade and a small make-up mirror for wedding day touch-ups.

V is for Vacuum cleaner.  Your bridal shower or wedding gift registry should include a hand-held vacuum and some type of upright vacuum that can be used for tile, laminated floors and carpeting.

February 3, 2013

Red is the color of joy in China and romance in North America . . a wonderful combination for the brides who live in Canada or the brides in the US who want a winter wedding.  Wear a red velvet cape and matching elbow-length gloves for a striking winter wedding ensemble.  Add a bouqet and floral headpiece of red roses to complete the "winter wedding" look.

T

i

T is for Travel alarm clock.  Packing an alarm clock would not be a priority for most Brides and Grooms going on a honeymoon . . . but, if you've got a plane, train or bus to catch or if you're going to cross a time zone then, yes, you will need a travel alarm clock (plus a couple of extra batteries) for your trip.

An organized Bride and Groom is a couple who is knowledgeable about their wedding and well prepared for their wedding day.  An organized couple knows the level of formality they want for their wedding.  An organized couple has a very good idea how many guests they are going to invite.  An organized couple knows what season they want to get married in. And, most importantly, an organized couple creates a realistic wedding budget.
