K is for Kitchen table and chairs
If a group of your friends and/or business associates and/or co-workers want to give you "a group gift", you should consider asking for or selecting a kitchen table and chairs and then making sure the coordinator of the group gift knows what you want.
For example: when my brother got married, his co-workers put money into a fund that went towards the purchase of a washing and dryer for my brother's new home.
J is for Jack and Jill Shower
A Jack and Jill Shower can be a shower for gifts that can be used by both the Bride and Groom OR it can be a shower that honors both the Bride and Groom individually at the same venue or location on the same date and time.
I is for Invitation
The invitation for your event should state the time, the date and the exact location. Your invitation should not include information about where a gift can be purchased for this event.
H is for Haircut
Get your hair cut about 7 - 10 days before your event. If you get your hair cut the day of your event, it will look "cut", and you don't want that look.
Kristi Rzadecki and Charles Lydamore were joined in matrimony on the 15th of December.
G is for Guest Book
A Guest Book is one of those items that can be costly if it is custom made or very inexpensive, if you make it yourself. F is for Father and/or Father In Law
If your Father is not available, you can ask your Father In Law to escort you down the aisle or assume other duties that are traditionally done by the Bride's Father
E is for entertainment
You do not have to have entertainment at your wedding or reception. On more than one occasion, especially in the morning and early afternoon hours, the couple chose not to have a band or a disc jockey or a singer or a group of singers at their wedding or renewal of vows.
And if you choose to have entertainment, make sure you are familiar with their style of music so you are not surprised or disappointed.
D is for Destination Wedding
A Destination Wedding can take place one hundred miles away or a thousand miles away there is no official distance. Most people define a destination wedding as one that does not take place in either of the couples' home towns.
Judith Gingerella and John Cantrell were united in matrimony on the 2nd day of December.

B is for bookstore.

On the 28th of November, Kristina Clarkson and Nikita Kalashnik were joined in matrimony.
A is for Aloha
Many officiants offer a couple a Hawaiian theme or Aloha theme wedding ceremony. That ceremony usually involves the presentation of leis to members of their family and/or dear friends and the exchange of leis between the couple.
Q is for Quaker.
In a Quaker wedding ceremony, the couple basically marries themselves. The simplicity of a Quaker church service is duplicated in a Quaker wedding ceremony.
Michele Vandygriff and Stephanie Ramos were joined in matrimony on the 17th of November.

L is for limousine
When you rent a limousine, you should ask for a contract that states the pickup time and the pickup address and the delivery time and the delivery address and what happens if there is a delay or problem. The contract should also show the stated price for the rental, the deposit and when the balance due is due, and what happens if there is a delay or problem.
On the 5th of November . .
Jaqueline Martin and Edson Pulgarin said, "We do!"
and
Vickie H Mackenstein and Michael Redding said, "We do!"
L is for legal
If you want a "legal" marriage, you must obtain a Marriage License, and that Marriage License must be valid on your wedding day. And after the wedding ceremony, the Marriage License must be completed and signed, and then returned to the Marriage License Department so the County Clerk can create your Certificate of Marriage and enter your marital information into the vital statistics of that state. Your Certificate of Marriage is your official and legal proof of your marriage.
P is for "packages"
There are many wedding vendors or venues that have "packages". Packages may include a wedding cake or a photographer or a musician or a DJ or additional chairs or decorations or an archway or a separate room for the wedding ceremony.
K is for keys . . .
If you are taken to the ceremony location but a friend or by a limousine or by a party bus then you need to take your house and car keys with you so you can get back into your home or drive your car home after the wedding ceremony and/or reception.

K is for Keys
In the excitement of going to the ceremony venue right before the ceremony begins, don't forget to take your hotel or apartment keys. On more than one occasion, I have had people tell me that they forgot their hotel key to get back into their room.
Nancy E McFalls and Ray S Froeschle were joined in matrimony on the 6th of September.
Joan Werleman and James Wheeler were joined in marriage on the 4th day of September.

Angeliki Touhouliogis and Racine Faye were united in marriage on the 25th of August.
DeAnna M Hutchinson and James R Sherman were joined in marriage on the 23rd of August.
J is for Justice of the Peace
Not every state has the position of "Justice of the Peace". A Justice of the Peace" has a different job description in each state that has that government position. The State of Florida does NOT have the position of "Justice of the Peace." So, if someone tells you that they got married by a "Justice of the Peace" in Florida, that is not true, that did not happen.
Virginia Cunningham and Gareth Robertson were joined in matrimony on the 17th of August.
I is for Informal
There are several categories of weddings: Ultraformal, Formal, Semi-formal and INFORMAL. A Halloween theme wedding would be considered "informal". A beach wedding where the couple is wearing a simple tropical print shirt, shorts and a sundress would be considered "informal". And a western themed wedding would be considered "informal".
Michelle Fletcher and Corey Robinson were joined in matrimony on the 12th day of August.
I is for Interfaith Wedding Ceremony
As a wedding ceremony officiant, I have performed several Interfaith Wedding Ceremonies. And those ceremonies either spotlighted an item from both faiths or the ceremony was considered "neutral" spot lighting neither faith.
For example: One of the Interfaith Wedding Ceremonies that conducted featured both the Bride's Father who recited the Jewish "Seven Blessings" to the wedding guests and the Groom's Father who led the wedding guests in "The Lord's Prayer".
H is for Honeymoon
Yes, you should go on some type of trip or honeymoon after your wedding. I know of couples who made their wedding ceremony part of their destination wedding, and I know of couples who left on their honeymoon within in a day or two of their wedding ceremony. And I know of a couple who put off their honeymoon until the Groom received his Master's Degree nine months after their wedding ceremony.
G is for Gift Table
Several years ago, I officiated a ceremony for a couple who were very mercenary, in my opinion. This couple were hoping for a big cash flow plus expensive gifts. I don't where the Bride got a box the size of a dishwasher but she did, and she made a sign that said "Put your gifts here!". I don't what the couple got in cash gifts but they were truly disappointed that no one put any BIG gifts in that BIG cardboard box sitting next to the gift table.
F is for Formalwear
There is a "dress code" for a couple who wish to be joined in matrimony. There are four levels of formality: there is ultraformal, formal, semi-formal and informal or casual. And even, though I have seen couples "mistmatched" many times, I still feel it is worth mentioning.
Just recently I witnessed this . . . the Bride was wearing a white lace gown with a veil and long train and the Groom was wearing an advertising T-shirt, cut off jeans and work boots in a backyard setting on a summer afternoon. And even though she wore what she wanted to and he wore what he wanted to, the couple looked very "mismatched".
Robyn Kuntzmann and Wayne Kuntzmann were united in matrimony on the 1st day of August.
E is for Engagement
A couple is "engaged" when one person asks the other to marry them, and that is called "a proposal". You do not need a diamond ring (or any type of ring) to be engaged.
I know one couple who became engaged on a Monday night and married four days later (a Thursday night). There was no engagement ring on Monday night, just a proposal.
D is for Dessert
It is very common in Florida to have a sunset wedding, and during the summer months that sunset ceremony will not start until 8PM or after. So many couples decide to have a "Cake and Dessert Reception" rather than a three or five course dinner at that late hour.
Amanda Ottenstroer and James Mancusi were joined in matrimony on the 11th day of June.
D is for decor and decorations
If you have a theme or color theme, you should use that theme for your decor and decorations.
I've been the wedding and event industry for many years, I've seen a theme "underdone" and I have seen a theme "overdone". For example, a Bride told me that she was going to have butterflies as her theme. She had a small butterfly on the front of her wedding invitation and she had a small butterfly in a floral bouquet on her guest book table. And to be honest with you, 99% of the people attending that Bride's wedding probably did not see either of those butterflies.
On the 18th of May, Wendy and Terry Owen renewed their wedding vows in celebration of their 30th Wedding Anniversary.
Lori J Evans and Christopher S Marszalkowski were joined in matrimony on the 16th day of May.
C is for cellular phones . .
There is a time and place for cell phones, and the Bride and Groom should make their feelings about cell phone usage during their wedding ceremony and reception well known by having someone announce what their guests "can and cannot do" with a cell phone.
On more than one occasion I have seen wedding guests create a problem for the professional photographer hired to take wedding photos.
On the 9th of May, Cindy Mae Agnes Belscher and Anthony Charles Heary Jr said, "We do!".
C is for Checking Account . .
If you as a couple are paying for or partially paying for your wedding then, you should open a separate checking account for those wedding expenses. Not only will this checking account keep you on budget, it will indicate what has been paid for and what still needs to be paid.
I once worked with a couple who determined about two weeks before their wedding date, they they did not have enough money to finish paying for all the items that they put a deposit on several months previously. So, what happened? Several of those items where cancelled, and it was too late to get a refund on those deposits.
B is for bridal shower . .
Contrary to popular belief . . It is NOT okay for a member of the immediate family to host or sponsor a bridal shower or a bride and groom shower. On more than one occasion I have been invited to a bridal shower hosted the Bride or Groom's Mother, and they really don't care if this event is inappropriate.
B is for Bridal Shoes . .
I've hear of Brides wearing flip flops and sneakers walking down the aisle. I've heard of Brides wearing five inch high heels down the aisle. My advice to you is wear something that complements your gown down the aisle, and then change into a comfortable pair of shoes for dancing and the reception. No need to go on your honeymoon with blisters on your feet.
A is for Address Book . .
Before you start addressing your invitations you need to review your address book or list. Do you have everyone's complete address including their zip code? Did you know that a envelope with a nine digit zip code on it moves faster in the postal system than an envelope with five digit zip code on it? You can get the a digit zip code for a post office box or street address from the USPS website.
Y is for Yacht . .
Getting married or renewing your wedding vows on a yacht is a great idea but just remember not all people can tolerate the rolling of the waves or the continuous motion under a yacht. So before you sign on the doted line, make sure none of the people who are participating or coming to your ceremony do not have a vertigo and or seasick problem.
Annie Keung and Dr Carl R Makarewicz were united in matrimony on the 6th day of April.
W is for Washer and Dryer
I know of a Bride and Groom who only wanted two things as a wedding gift. . . a Washer and Dryer. So, the Bride's family created a "Washer fund" and the Groom's family created a "Dryer fund". Each person contributed what they would spend for a bridal shower gift and a wedding gift.
Nicki Kelly-Rieder and Daniel Rieder renewed their vows of marriage on the 30th of March.
V is for vows.
One of the legal requirements for a marriage is the couple must state a vow to each other. Vows are pledges or promises.
T is for Thank You Notes
Just saying "Thank You" is only half the job. If someone takes the time to buy you a gift, than you should take the time to write them a "Thank You" note.
On the 16th of March, Elizabeth Faline Robbins and Trevor Williams were joined in matrimony.
S is for Safe Deposit Box
As a married couple, you will have lots of "important papers and documents", like your Certificate of Marriage. You need to purchase a fire proof metal security box or rent a safe deposit box for these "important papers". A fire proof metal security box can be purchased at general merchandise stores like Target or Walmart or office supply stores like Office Depot or on the internet.
Ring for for Ring Princess . .
Traditionally the wedding rings are carried in and/or held by either the Best Man or the Ring Bearer. Many weddings ago, I married a couple who wanted one of their daughters to be a Flower Girl and the other daughter to carry in the rings. The girls' Father said, "We going to call her The Ring Princess". When the girls walked down the aisle, the Bride and Groom asked me to announce their names and what their titles were as a surprise to the girls. The Ring Princess wore a tiara and a big smile when she walked down the aisle.
BobbieSue Krol and Scott Patrick were united in matrimony on the 28th of February.
Q is for quartz sand
Siesta Key Beach (Sarasota), FL is very popular because it has quartz sand. Quartz sand is cool to the touch and white. Siesta Key Beach is a very popular wedding venue.
Catherine Goetz-Perry and David Rusciolelli were joined in matrimony on the 25th of February.
P is for Picturesque
Your wedding ceremony should always have a picturesque background. A old, broken fence is not a picturesque background.
Deborah Smith and Timothy Dreyer were joined in matrimony on the 20th day of February.
Amy J Neuin and Richard L Goss Jr were joined in matrimony on the 19th of February.
O is for officiate . .
Officiate means to conduct a ceremony. The person conducting the ceremony is the officiant.
Kimberly Harris and Gary Pourier were joined in matrimony on the 17th of February.
N is for new location or address . .
If you, as a couple, are moving right before or right after your wedding, then your friends and family members should be informed of that as soon as possible. You can publish your new address on your ceremony program or on your dinner menu or on some type of E-mail notification or our new address cards. It is also a good idea to have your new address stated on your "Thank You" notes.
On the 12th of February, Christian Millicent Greene and Donald Gardner III said, "We do!"
M is for Marriage License
If you wish to be legally married you must apply for a Marriage License. A Marriage License has three dates on it: Date License Issued / Date License Valid / Expiration Date. A Marriage License will ask for personal information from each person. The officiant is required to see the couple's Marriage License before the wedding ceremony begins.
L is for lobster
Many years ago, I had a Bride and Groom who wanted "surf and turf" as their dinner at their wedding reception. Unfortunately, that "surf and turf" request was just for those two people, everyone else was getting a turkey dinner. I told the Bride and Groom they could order all the "surf and turf" they wanted on their honeymoon but it was very rude and inappropriate to serve two different meals at their wedding reception.
K is for Kitchen Table and Chairs
Before you buy a kitchen table and chairs determine what style you want. Do you want wood? Metal? Or glass? Do you want two chairs? Four chairs? Six chairs? Eight chairs?
J is for Jack and Jill Shower
I always thought it was unfair that wedding showers were only one sided, only for the Bride.
Now, the Groom's family members and friends can give him Gift Cards to Lowes or silk boxer shorts and the Bride's family members and friends can give her Gift Cards to Victoria's Secret and casserole dishes at the same event.
I is for Ice Cream
One of the easiest desserts at a reception or party is to have "an ice cream buffet". Just buy vanilla and chocolate ice cream and serve with a variety of toppings. Everybody loves to make their own sundae.
H is for Haircut
You should not get a hair cut the day or the day before your wedding. You should get your hair cut about 5 - 7 days before your wedding. Why? Because it will just look better.
I once had a Groom who refused to comb his hair right before his wedding ceremony. I even gave him a comb and a mirror. He informed me that he never combs his hair and no one would recognize him if he did comb his hair. L is for lazy.
G is for Gift Registry
Your Gift Registry should have items in all price categories starting at $10. Gift Registry information or details should NOT be included with the wedding invitation. Gift Registry information can be included in Bridal Shower invitations. Yes, it is appropriate for several people to combine their money for one "large" or expensive gift.
F is for Food . .
Serving food is a major aspect of a Wedding or Renewal of Vows reception or party. Some couples pick their favorite foods as their reception food, some couples select the least expensive food at their reception and some couples dwell on every aspect of their three course or five course menu.
I once worked with a couple who made arrangements to have a variety of pizzas delivered to a park after their beach wedding. The couple wanted the pizzas delivered right after their 5PM wedding ceremony, and the pizzas were delivered as requested. What the couple forgot, as they were creating their wedding day schedule, was that friends and family photos are taken on the beach after a ceremony. So, as a result, the Bride and Groom and their guests ate cold pizza.
E is for Etiquette Book
No matter what type of event you are planning, if you are inviting more than two people, you need to invest in an Etiquette Book.
Many years ago, I was asked by a Groom if it was "Okay" if his friends and family members brought their own "booze and beer" to his wedding reception. He did not drink alcoholic beverages and he had no intentions of paying for other peoples drinks.
I don't know if reading an Etiquette Book would have helped this Groom but at least he would known what is right or appropriate, and what is inappropriate.
D is from dreams . . Every couple has wedding hopes and dreams. Sometimes your budget permits you to fulfill all of those hopes and dreams, and sometimes you have to be budget realistic.
I once worked with a Bride who "dreamed" of a very expensive bridal gown, a bridal gown that every woman would be envious of. The Bride's parents gave her a total of $10,000 for all of the wedding expenditures. The Bride spent over $8,000 on her bridal gown which left very little money for the rest of the wedding expenditures. So, what happened? Hot dogs and burgers were served at the backyard reception. Very few people saw the Bride's expensive gown because the couple did not have enough funds to hire a professional photographer and only twenty people were invited to the wedding.
D is for Dancing Lessons If you plan to have a "first dance" during your reception than you should know how to dance. Take dance lessons at least four to six weeks in advance of your event and then practice, practice, practice.
Many years ago, I married a couple in a historic building who insisted on having their "first dance" right after the wedding ceremony. I assumed they knew how to dance, they did not.
I was very embarrassed for this couple. It was a very poor performance.
C is for Civil Ceremony. A civil ceremony is also referred to as a "Simple Ceremony" or a "Non-religious Ceremony". Civil Ceremonies are performed by a Justice of the Peace, a judge, a civil servant, a county clerk or a notary.
Teresa Morehead and Timothy Griffin were united in marriage on the 20th of January.
B is for Bridal Shoes . . I strongly suggest bringing two or three changes of shoes on your wedding day. Some brides wear Converse Sneakers under their bridal gown and some brides wear 3 inch high heel designer shoes. No matter what you wear, you need at least two changes of shoes because it is going to be a long, long day and you will need a comfort change.
On the 22nd of January, Barbara Ulrich and John Veselka Jr were united in matrimony.
A is for African violet . .
Many years ago, a Groom would to honor and memorialize his Grandmother who passed away right before the Groom's wedding. His Grandmother loved African violets so in lieu of having a centerpiece on each reception table a mixture of African violets were put in the center of each reception table. The Groom went from table to table telling the wedding guests the significance of the African violets and encouraging the guests to take the African violets home with them. This special gesture made the Groom and his family feel good.
On the 15th of January, Jennifer D Walker and Andrew T Tuchscherer were joined in marriage.
If you are having a winter wedding or renewal of vows, consider having a coffee or hot beverage station before, during and after your meal.
