BIG WEEKEND! On Saturday, September 18, 2010, I attended the Association of Bridal Shops "Not Just For Novices Workshop-Fall 2010 at Bentley's Resort Hotel in Osprey. From 9AM to 4PM we were entertained and educated by Elise Enloe, the ABC Florida State Coordinator and Tammy Waterman. After 4PM several of the Association of Bridal Consultants members (who also attended the workshop) help unpack and inventory the thirty-six gowns being shown at the Brides Against Breast Cancer fashion show on Sunday.
After months of preparation the Weddings of Venice "Bridal Show Party" became a reality. Lots of Brides-to-be, Grooms-to-be, and Mother-in-laws to be. "Lady Gaga" was a big hit with our guests, our signature cocktail, "The Kiss Kiss" was quite popular, and the smell of chocolates, wedding cake, decorated cupcakes, and chicken marsala filled the air. We had a great day!

A recent question from a Bride and Groom. Do we have to have a rehearsal?
Response: I strongly suggest having a rehearsal if you are having several attendants and/or children participating in the processional and recessional. I also believe when everyone in the wedding party participates in the rehearsal they feel more comfortable walking down the aisle the next day, your wedding day. Don't let anyone tell you a rehearsal will only take "five minutes." A good rehearsal will solve last minute problems and give each of your wedding party members a clear picture of what to do and when to do it (and that should take about 30-45 minutes).

Did you know that one of the many traditions in a Persian wedding is to have "a needle and seven strands of colored thread to figuratively sew up the mother-in-law's lips from speaking unpleasant words or meddling in the marriage?" And for those Brides and Grooms who wish to "modernize" that tradition, and make it less offensive, the tradition could mean "sewing the lips of nay-sayers or unkind people".

A Bride asked recently . .
My Mother is very frugal and she wants me to get married about 1PM in our backyard and then just serve cake and ice cream afterwards to a few family members and friends. My fiance's parents are very disappointed with my Mother's plan. They only have one child and getting married in some one's backyard is not their idea of a "nice wedding." So, how do we keep both of our parents happy?
Response: Actually, you can please both sets of parents. Get married at your Mother's house on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon AND THEN schedule a second ceremony and reception the next day or the next week. Each parents can HOST (plan, organize, and pay for) their own wedding to their liking and "pocketbook."
