Congratulations and best wishes to Shannon Marie Easter and Nicholas Robert Simonson who became Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Simonson on Wednesday, December 29, 2010. The 2PM ceremony and reception was held at the picturesque Portofino Restaurant, 23247 Bayshore Road, in Port Charlotte, Florida. Serrin Boys, sister of the Bride, was the Matron of Honor and Erik Boys, the Bride's nephew, was the ring bearer. The Groom's two brothers, Cory Simonson and Nate Simonson, were the Best Men. The Bride was escorted "down the aisle" by her Father, Rocky Easter, as The Bridal Chorus played in the background. Both the Bride's Mother, Gail Wilkinson, and the Groom's Mother, Carol Simonson, participated in the beachfront Sand Ceremony with the Bride and Groom.
Hip Hip Hooray to Shannon and Nick!

Attended the last Weddings of Venice (FL) meeting for the year 2010. The meeting took place at the lovely Venetian Golf Club on Pesaro Road on Tuesday, November 9. Our speaker was Debbi Walters of Calypso Graphics. Debbi stressed the importance of networking with our old business associates and finding new ones on a regular basis. She also encouraged us to wear some type of identification badges when we network so the new people that you meet will remember you and your company. You should always ask what your new contact does and where they work SO they will inquire about you and your business in return. Our first meeting for the year 2011 is on Tuesday, January 11.

Question from a recent Bride and Groom . .
"Where did the phrase "Does anyone know why this man and woman cannot marry" originate? And do we have to have it in our ceremony?
In the middle ages, people rarely traveled more than fifty miles away from where they were born. So, if you were new, you could be married ten towns over and no one would know. If you never received all of your sacraments, you would not be able to wed in the church. If your Father was "a rover" you could be a brother or sister, and you would never know that, or were it to be found out that one party was conceived on the wrong side of the sheets a political alliance could be broken. In this atmosphere and time, Marriage Banns were created. They would nail the announcement up in a public placed and if ANYONE knew of ANY reason why this man and woman could not legally marry, then let them come forward and speak or never tell the couple. The practice of Marriage Banns became so successful that it was widely endorsed by all faiths, and it is still practiced in many religions today.
This question or phrase is not usually asked anymore because the process of applying for a Marriage License and showing personal identification has removed any doubts about who can legally marry.

BIG WEEKEND! On Saturday, September 18, 2010, I attended the Association of Bridal Shops "Not Just For Novices Workshop-Fall 2010 at Bentley's Resort Hotel in Osprey. From 9AM to 4PM we were entertained and educated by Elise Enloe, the ABC Florida State Coordinator and Tammy Waterman. After 4PM several of the Association of Bridal Consultants members (who also attended the workshop) help unpack and inventory the thirty-six gowns being shown at the Brides Against Breast Cancer fashion show on Sunday.
After months of preparation the Weddings of Venice "Bridal Show Party" became a reality. Lots of Brides-to-be, Grooms-to-be, and Mother-in-laws to be. "Lady Gaga" was a big hit with our guests, our signature cocktail, "The Kiss Kiss" was quite popular, and the smell of chocolates, wedding cake, decorated cupcakes, and chicken marsala filled the air. We had a great day!

A recent question from a Bride and Groom. Do we have to have a rehearsal?
Response: I strongly suggest having a rehearsal if you are having several attendants and/or children participating in the processional and recessional. I also believe when everyone in the wedding party participates in the rehearsal they feel more comfortable walking down the aisle the next day, your wedding day. Don't let anyone tell you a rehearsal will only take "five minutes." A good rehearsal will solve last minute problems and give each of your wedding party members a clear picture of what to do and when to do it (and that should take about 30-45 minutes).

Did you know that one of the many traditions in a Persian wedding is to have "a needle and seven strands of colored thread to figuratively sew up the mother-in-law's lips from speaking unpleasant words or meddling in the marriage?" And for those Brides and Grooms who wish to "modernize" that tradition, and make it less offensive, the tradition could mean "sewing the lips of nay-sayers or unkind people".

A Bride asked recently . .
My Mother is very frugal and she wants me to get married about 1PM in our backyard and then just serve cake and ice cream afterwards to a few family members and friends. My fiance's parents are very disappointed with my Mother's plan. They only have one child and getting married in some one's backyard is not their idea of a "nice wedding." So, how do we keep both of our parents happy?
Response: Actually, you can please both sets of parents. Get married at your Mother's house on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon AND THEN schedule a second ceremony and reception the next day or the next week. Each parents can HOST (plan, organize, and pay for) their own wedding to their liking and "pocketbook."

Just recently a new Bride and her Mother were on the Judge Judy Show. The Bride and her Mother were suing the Groom, who left the Bride after three weeks of marriage, because he failed to contribute to the wedding expenses, he failed to repay an automobile loan to the Bride's Mother, and he took half of the wedding gifts when he left.
So, the question of the week is . . Do you think that Groom should pay the Bride's Mother for one half of the wedding expenses and he is entitled to one half of the wedding gifts?

Traveled to the awesome Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village in St Augustine this past weekend (August 20 through August 22). On a scale of 1 to ten this hotel/resort is an 11! My purpose in visiting this resort was to attend the Association of Bridal Consultants Southeast Regional Fall Meeting entitled "Exploring the Past, Building the Future." One of my dearest ABC friends, Sandee Monahan presented "Etiquette and Service Revival." The next ABC Regional Fall Meeting will take place in the Pensacola, FL area.
And if you ever travel to the Renaissance Resort make sure you try one of their delicious "pancake size" cookies. The chocolate chip cookie was perfectly baked and crispy.

The history of the Engagement
At one time the engagement was just as important the wedding itself. Anglo-Saxons were used to stealing away their brides-to-be. Romance, wooing, and engagements were not in the picture. But the families of the women insisted on being reimbursed for what was, after all, a working member of the family. The engagement signified the intended transfer of ownership from Father to Husband and also provided a period during which the "the bride's price" could be agreed upon.
Several centuries later the situation was in reverse and Fathers were paying future sons-in-law, or their families, a "dowry" to marry off their daughters. The engagement was again a time for agreeing on the payment, or dowry, and also a time for collecting an extravagant trousseau, at least for rich brides.

Lessons of the Heart
Love is not the rock on the finger of the girl you plan to marry
It is the size of the boulder you move to repair the marriage.
Love is not the fairy tale that ends with happily every after
It is the hand that wipes away the tears.
Love is not in the spotlight
It is waiting in the shadows.
Love is not winning the argument
It is listening with an open heart.
Love is not flowers or candy
It is truth and honesty.
Love is not the ease of the quest
It is the commitment to the relationship.
Love is not expensive restaurants
It is the sacrifice made to feed a child.
Love is not the dream come true
It is chasing nightmares away.
Love is not the success of money
It is the failure to find fault.
Love is not sweet nothings whispered in the ear
It is accepting the thoughts of others.
Love is not the latest ballad on the radio
It is the song of a lifetime.

Come on down! Went to the beautiful Siesta Key Beach yesterday. The water was soooooo warm, at least 80 degrees. Thousands of people on the beach. Hundreds of people enjoying the drum circle as the sun was setting. There's nothing like a golden sunset on the Siesta Key Beach. What a great place to have a romantic wedding ceremony! Answer: Do you socialize with this person after working hours? Do you have a personal relationship with this person? If you do not have a social or personal relationship with this person then the answer is No, you do not have to invite him or her to your wedding.

The tradition of wearing something blue comes from the brides of ancient Israel, who wore that color to symbolize fidelity and love, and from early Christian brides who wore it to symbolize the purity of the Virgin Mary. To honor either heritage, sew small blue bows to the hem of your gown or on your veil or on your gloves or on the front of your shoes.

Establishing a budget for your wedding should be the very first item on your "to do" list. Why? Because there is nothing more humiliating or embarrassing than having to cancel your three-tiered wedding cake thirty days before your wedding because you cannot afford to pay for it. So my question is . . Did you establish a budget for your wedding, and what were the results?

Just had an E-mail question from a Bride and Groom. Do we have to have bridesmaids and groomsmen and a flower girl?
Answer: No, you do not. If the state that you live in requires two witnesses to sign the marriage document then any two people over the age of eighteen years old attending your ceremony can sign.

Just got an E-mail from a Bride and Groom. They wanted to know if they should send a wedding invitation to family members and friends that they knew would not be able to attend the wedding.
My answer: you should never assume that someone cannot attend your wedding. Send them the invitation and let them make the decision.

According to shine.yahoo.com "the 7 biggest fattest wedding complaints" are (1) cash bar (2) big journey, small bites (3) all fried food (4) no veggie options (5) never ending waits for food services (6) running out of the big ticket entree (7) the wedding cake face smash.
And here's some other complaints that should have made that list . .
(1) the wedding ceremony starts late
(2) a million and one photographs are taken between the end of the ceremony and the beginning of the reception, and as a result the guests have to wait and wait and wait for dinner
(3) the best man is unprepared to make a toast, and he just rambles on and on and on

On the TV show "Who's Wedding Is It Anyway" today, the event planner questioned the Bride's theme colors and her choice of several decorative items. So, my question is, "Would you want your planner or coordinator to make suggestions that may improve the look and feeling that you are after?"

Our beautiful white sand beaches in Sarasota County (Florida) are open for business and pleasure. Get married in Sarasota County or honeymoon in Sarasota County. There's lots to see and do in the Sarasota County area. Where's Sarasota County? It's south of Tampa and north of Fort Myers. You can fly into the Orlando Airport or the Sarasota-Bradenton Airport or the Fort Myers Airport. Even Venice has an airport for small or private planes.
