Question . .

What will happen if we do not obtain our Marriage License in time for our wedding day?

Response . .

Your officiant should inform you of when and where to obtain your Marriage License but it is your, the Bride and Groom, responsibility to apply for it within the required time period.  If you do not have a VALID Marriage License on your wedding day your officiant has the option of doing two things . .

He or she can refuse to conduct any ceremony.  And they, the officiant, can also insist on being compensated for at least fifty percent of their fee because they met their contractual obligation by preparing the ceremony and coming to the ceremony site.

He or she can conduct a commitment ceremony.  In a commitment ceremony the words husband, wife, and marriage are eliminated.  If the officiant decides to conduct a commitment ceremony, he or she must inform the guests that the ceremony that they are about to witness is not a legal marriage ceremony and that the couple will not be legally married at the end of the ceremony.  It is illegal to conduct a mock ceremony in Florida.
