Here's one of the Ten Best Budget Friendly Honeymoon, Destination Wedding and Family Resorts.
Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg
Located just three miles from Colonial Williamsburg, Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg offers families the ability to mix a healthy dose of culture with a giant dose of fun. If you nieces, nephews, and cousins aren't keen on the idea of period clothing and the Revolutionary War, then this resort's recreational area should get their attention. This property has been ranked first for "Top 10 Best Pools in the US" by Trip Advisor.
What makes it a deal? The indoor water park. If your family members are into them, this one is well worth every penny. The resort has a 300,000 gallon indoor water park with eight waterslides, a wave pool, lazy-river, pool for basketball, Flowrider surf pool and the highlight of the property: The Howlin Tornado, which sends four-person rafts down a six-story funnel and spits them out into an exit pool. And, of course, with the Williamsburg location, you're getting two vacations for the price of one - that is, if you can manage to pull the relatives away from the waterpark.

Question from a Bride and Groom . .
Do we both have to exchange wedding rings? How do we handle just one wedding ring exchange during the ceremony?
Response . .
You do not have to exchange wedding rings, it is not a requirement, it is your choice, your option. In regards to only one person wishing to receive a ring during the ceremony, this detail should be brought to the attention of your officiant (at a pre-wedding meeting) so he or she can make the appropriate adjustment in the ceremony wording.

Staying "on budget" makes paying the wedding expenses a lot easier. One out of three couples do not stay on budget, matter of fact, they exceed their budget substantially because they did not do their homework or research before they created a budget.

Question . .
We want a "small, intimate wedding." How many people are involved in a small wedding?
Response . .
There are two interpretations to this question. I personally feel, a small wedding has less than fifty invited guests. And it can also mean that the wedding party has only four or five members (the Bride, the Groom, a Maid of Honor, the Best Man, and a Flower Girl or Ring Bearer). Your wedding party should be in balance with your guest list which means you should NOT have six bridesmaids and six groomsmen and only invite twenty guests.

Here's another one of the ten Best Budget Honeymoon and Family Friendly Resorts . .
Si Como No which is located in the Province of Puntarenas in Costa Rica. Eco-friendly Si Como No's sixty rooms are surrounded by jungle and sea. The property is secluded enough to feel like you are a million miles away from civilization, yet there are ample amenities and activities to make it entertaining for children, young adults and adults. There are two restaurants, two pools (one family pool with a water slide), a small movie theater and wireless Internet on the property.
What makes it a deal?
The room rates at Si Como No are surprisingly affordable given its spectacular location, and it also includes a complimentary breakfast buffet, free shuttle to nearby Manuel Antonio National Park and free passes to the Butterfly Botanical Gardens at Fincas Naturales Wildlife Refuge across the street. But perhaps, most importantly, you'll feel good knowing your money was well spent. The owners of Si Como No is renown for his efforts to help preserve the rain forest.

What is a Groom's Cake?
A Groom's Cake is still a popular custom or tradition in the South. It is a separate entity from the wedding cake. It can be served at the rehearsal dinner or as a second choice at the wedding reception. It usually features the favorite flavors of the Groom and the Groom's hobbies or interests or school affiliation. It's considered "a fun cake," I know of many Brides and Grooms who order the traditional yellow pound cake for their wedding cake and a chocolate raspberry cake for their Groom's cake.

Fine wines at wedding receptions and rehearsal dinners are a new trend worth toasting. If your wine know-how has consisted of ordering house cabs an pinots until now, definitely find an expert to help you pull this off with style.
Who you gonna call?????? A wine consultant. Bring your rehearsal or reception dinner menu to your favorite wine shop and work with a connoisseur who can help you pair wines with the food you have selected. Heather Brown, an independent wine consultant with "Unique Wine Cellar" recommends selecting at least two whites and two reds so you'll appeal to your guests' broad palette. Order your wine at least four weeks prior to your event. A fun finishing touch is to personalize your wine bottles! Many wine shops, including those online, are offering custom labels - some allow you to upload a photo of you and your man or work from one of several predesigned labels and just add a personal message. A personal wine bottle also makes a great "Thank You" gift for guests.

Why Throw a Garter?
The garter is said to be a substitute for the ribbon which the lady presented her champion knight of King Arthur's Round Table who gallantly carried her colors into battle. The Order of the Garter was formed in England in the fourteenth century, as an honor given to distinguished noblemen who to this day wear a heraldic garter as part of their ceremonial garb. Nowadays, the garter is tossed to the single men at the reception, the recipient, according to myth, will be the next to marry.

Question from a Groom . .
Does the ushers, the groomsmen and the fathers have to wear the same style of suit or outfit as me?
Response . .
In a ultra formal wedding, yes . . in a formal wedding, yes . . in a semi-formal wedding, yes . . but not in a casual or informal wedding. Everyone should dress "on the same level of formality." If the Groom is wearing a tuxedo, then everyone should wear a tuxedo. Think about your photographs, wouldn't it look nicer if everyone was "all dressed up."

Surcharge for paying the checked baggage fee at the airport . .
The cost: $2 to $5 each way.
Why you're being charged: The regular $15 to $35 check bag fee was bad enough. Now, in an attempt to boost profits and reduce airport lines, most major air carriers, are also charging extra if you pay checked baggage fees curbside or at a ticket counter or a kiosk. So, before leaving home, be sure to prepay the fee at the airline's website, then print your e-ticket.

Here's one of the "Top Ten" Best Budget Friendly Honeymoon, Destination Wedding and Family Resorts
Please consider this location for your honeymoon or destination wedding . . Club Med Yucatan
Club Med's Yucatan 400 rooms and suites sit alongside what is arguably the best beach in Cancun (Mexico). The wide, mile-long expanse of sandy beach is perfect for families. Some may remember that prior to the Hurricane Wilma in 2005, the resort was "adults only." But it reopened in November 2006 after undergoing $20 million in renovations, including the addition of Club Med's signature children's program: a Mini-Club for ages 4 to 10, Junior Club Med for ages 11 to 13 and Passworld Teen Club for ages 14 to 17.
What makes is a deal? Club Med is a GOOD BARGAIN because of the quality of the kids' programming you get for the price. While you will find other all-inclusive resorts that offer children's programs and might have more luxurious accommodations and more sophisticated dining options, what you get for the price at a Club Med makes it a good choice. This particular Club Med rates even higher than most on the value scale because of its top-notch beach.

Question . . Is it OK to hand deliver some of our wedding invitations, it will save us a lot of money because we won't have to as many stamps.
Response: Only in a very unique situation, for example: your Grandmother is in the hospital. If you plan to give out these invitations at a family gathering or party the answer is No. If you plan to travel from one house to another the answer is No. It should never be obvious to your wedding guests that you are cutting corners or being frugal.

Good question, good advice . .
When filling out an insurance application, can I stretch the truth about my health?
Magazine by by Kelli Grant . . Fibbing about your medical history may get you better rates on a health or life insurance policy, but it's a choice that could leave you uninsured when you most need coverage, "When people become very sick or have an accident, it's common for insurers to investigate their medical backgrounds," says Larry McNeely, the health-care advocate for the US Public Interest Research Groups, a federation of state consumer-advocacy groups. "If they discover an error - even one you made by accident, they can rescind your policy." More likely, insurance companies will flag your symptoms as a preexisting condition, allowing them to deny coverage and raise your premiums."

Disney's Pop Culture Resort (in Florida) is considered one of Disney's "value resorts." Located near Epcot Center, this sprawling 2880 room resort has three pools, an arcade, a playground and a large food court. Pop Century is a little more dated than some of the other Disney properties.
So what does it make if "budget friendly? The rates are extremely reasonable for a Disney property. All Disney Resorts offer advantages to staying there over other motels/hotels in the Orlando area . . starting with Magic Hours which allows you to arrive early at the park on certain days and free bus transportation to all Walt Disney World Resort destinations.

A recent question from a Bride . .
Do I have to like the men that my husband-to-be wants as his Best Man and groomsmen?
Response: Does your fiance know this? Have any of these men hurt you physically? Have any of these men hurt you emotionally? Will you be uncomfortable if these men are close to you on your wedding day?

Why a Wedding Toast?
As drink goes, wine has always been central to the wedding, even mentioned in the Bible. The first recorded toast was given at a Saxony feast in 450AD by a woman who became a bride herself before the end of the evening.
A toast should be "short and simple." If you have written more than one or two sentences IT IS TOO LONG.

Question from a Groom . .
Would it be OK for my Groomsmen to wear just a pair of dark pants and wear a white shirt?
Response . .
No. When you asked these gentlemen to participate in your wedding you should have informed them that they will either have to rent formal attire or wear something appropriate, and if they cannot afford to do that then you need to know that. You're supposed to get "all dressed up" for a wedding, wearing just a pair of black slacks and a white shirt is NOT getting "dressed up."
I was once associated with a Groom who had nothing but "poor" male friends and/or relatives. He let them wear "half of a tuxedo" to the wedding because it was less expensive. It looked like terrible, and I'm sure their wedding photographs reflected how incomplete the groomsmen looked.

Toasting the Bride and Groom with Champagne . .
Champagne (or sparkling wine) on a budget: Neither of the following two sparklers is technically Champagne because neither is made in the Champagne region of France. Nonetheless, each of these beverages delivers a lot of bubbles for the buck. Paul Cheneau Brut Blanc De Blancs (about $8) may have a French name, but this effusive nonvintage cava is from Spain. 1998 Seaview Brut (about $9) from Australia has wonderful flavors.

Question from Brides and Grooms . .
Do we have to invite people we don't know to our wedding?
Answer . .
You should never invite anyone to your wedding that you do not know or have not met. Parents have a tendency to invite their bowling buddies or neighbors or co-workers in order to impress them or pay them back BUT if you don't know those people then cross their names off the guest list. Your parents can always have an "open house" after the wedding to meet the newlyweds.

If you have old magnetic photo albums, remove your photos . . the acid in the glue can cause pictures to deteriorate. how do you pry them off the stick pages in one piece?
Slip unwanted dental floss under an edge of the photo, then slowly slide it back and forth all the way down to slice through the glue.
OR
Use a microspatula to carefully pry up the photo. This tiny metal blade is available at art supply stores or gaylord.com for about $10.
Got lots of engagement, wedding and honeymoon photos? With shutterfly.com, just select a Simple Path photo book, add pictures from your computer or Facebook albums, pick a theme, add captions and you're done. Snapfish.com is just as easy to use, and I really like the themes and backgrounds.

Put on a black T-shirt, a pair of black slacks or jeans and then go buy a tablet of sticky notes. Write cute little sayings on the notes. Everybody will love reading them or you can just walk around and hand them out.

The wedding ring . .
Wedding bands, symbolizing eternal love by their lack of beginning or end, grew out of the ancient tradition of using circlets of grass to decorate a bride's and ankles. Here's One of the Ten Best Budget Friendly Honeymoon, Destination Wedding and Family Resorts
Comfort Suites Paradise Island Resort
The Comfort Suites Paradise Island in the Bahamas is the best way to experience the Atlantis Resort and Casino ON A BUDGET. It is directly adjacent to Atlantis, a few extra steps could save you and/or your friends and family several hundred of dollars. A nice resort in its own right, the 229 room Comfort Suites has a lovely pool with a swim-up bar, free continental breakfast, an on-site restaurant for breakfast and lunch (which is less expensive than dining at the Atlantis) and a refrigerator in every room.
What makes it a deal?
The major draw is that you get full access to all the facilities at Atlantis Resort and Casino including the pools, water slides and river rides, spa, Kids Club, Dolphin Cay and Aquaventure. You can also ask for signing privileges at Atlantis restaurants, though you will not have access to the Atlantis meal plans), which means you can spend the entire day at Atlantis and return to your room at the Comfort Suites only to change clothes or sleep.

I attended the Weddings of Venice October meeting last night, Wednesday, October 19, at the historic Old Florida on the Bay-Spanish Point in Osprey. We were given a walking tour of the lovely Sunken Garden and the quaint Mary's Chapel. What a perfect setting for a Renewal of Vows, a baptism or a wedding ceremony. This location is part of the early 1900's winter estate of entrepreneur and socialite Mrs. Potter Palmer (who was a major influence in the development and establishment of Sarasota County).

Question from a Bride and Groom . .
Should I have second thoughts about getting married now that my wedding day is coming? Does every Bride and Groom wonder if they are doing the right thing?
If you are having SERIOUS second thoughts that could be interpreted as REGRETS than you need some counseling immediately, even if that means postponing your wedding. Brides and Grooms who are truly looking forward to getting married and starting their own family are secure in their plans.

Question of the week . .
How would you respond to a wedding guest who asked if they could bring some friends of theirs who are visiting for the weekend to your reception?
Would you say, "It's OK."
Would you say, "It's OK as long as YOU pay for their dinners."
Would you say, "No, we can not afford to do that and we do not have room for any more guests."
And how would you feel if the wedding guest didn't even ask if it was OK to bring along some friends, they just brought them hoping it would be OK.

Chinese numerology and Feng Shui for the year 2011.
This year we are going to experience four unusual dates . . 1/1/11 1/11/11 . . 11/1/11 . . and 11/11/11; and that's not all. take the last two digits of the year that you were born and the age you will be this year and the result will add up to 111 for everyone!
This is the year of MONEY. Also, this year, October will have five Sundays, five Mondays, and five Saturdays. This happens only once ever 823 years. Good luck to you!

Why a Wedding Cake?
The tradition of the wedding cake has ancient roots. The Roman wedding ceremony included a simple cake made from salt, water and wheat flour. The cake custom may also be connected to the fertility rituals of many cultures. One custom, similar to that of throwing confetti, involved showering the Bride with many small cakes after the wedding. Sometimes the cakes were even broken over the Bride's head. Elaborately decorated wedding cakes date from Victorian times. The Bride and Groom feed each other a taste of cake to symbolize the sharing of life's bounty.

Question from a Bride and Groom . .
What do we need to take to the Marriage License department?
The applicants must apply "in person" . . and they must bring a driver's license or a passport or a Florida Identification Card. If either of the applicants were previously married, the date the prior marriage ended by divorce, annulment or death is required. I strongly suggest bringing two forms of identification, and one of them should be a picture ID.

Why a wedding reception?
The fact is that marriage feasts have been in existence nearly as long as marriage ceremonies. The early Greeks held a splendid wedding feast for every couple. and it was a very special occasion indeed . . because although women were not usually included in other Greek banquets, they were invited to the wedding feasts.

Question from a Bride and Groom . .
There are several people on our guest list who are no longer friends or on speaking terms with other people on our guest list, how do we handle this? Should we tell all the people involved so they know what to expect?
All parties involved should be informed BEFORE the wedding invitations are mailed out. If anyone gives you a hard time or creates a problem then don't invite them to the wedding. Hopefully, all of these people are mature adults who can behave during the ceremony and reception. Sit them as far apart as possible in the reception dining room.

Question from a Bride and Groom . .
One of our grandmothers is giving us her china set as a wedding gift and we are thrilled with this generous gift. There are about six pieces that are either missing or chipped. Someone told us that there is a big store down south that carries missing china pieces, do you know the name?
Contact REPLACEMENTS, LTD in Greensboro, NC. They carry a HUGE inventory of china, crystal, and silver (old and new). I strongly suggest registering the pattern that you are trying to complete with them via their website http://www.replacements.com/ or by calling them 1-800-737-5223. Once you register the pattern that you are trying to complete you will get updates on what they have available and the prices. I have taken a tour of this facility and I was extremely impressed by their knowledge, efficiency, and organization.

For those of you Brides and Groom who are going on your first "adult" trip here's some tipping (or gratuity) advice . .
Airport skycap . . $1 to $3 per bag. Large or bulky items (like a golf bag) deserve an extra dollar or two.
Bellhop . . $1 to $2 per bag. If your suitcase is on the heavy side or extra large, tip an extra $1.
Food delivery from a restaurant or food business warrants 10 to 15% of the bill before any local taxes.
Hotel housekeeper deserves $2 per night at a "budget" hotel or $3 to $5 per night at a "nice" hotel.
Shuttle bus driver . . $1 to $2 per bag. Tip this driver if they wait for you or helps you with your luggage or helps you get to your destination quickly.
Valet parking attendant . . $1 to $3 in towns or small cities. $3 to $5 in large cities. If you are driving a SUV, then add another $1 or two due to its difficulty in parking.

How did the Bachelor Party or Dinner start?
I dates back to the Spartan Groom, who always invited his close friends to a supper on the eve of his wedding to celebrate and to reminisce about his past. Traditionally, it was also held to raise money for the bridegroom so he would be able to continue to drink with his buddies after his wife took control of the finances. Mainly, however, it was a mourning for the passing of the man's bachelor status.

Question from Bride and Groom . .
Do peole get dressed up for weddings at the Court House?
I have seen "anything and everything" at this location. I have seen Brides and Grooms dressed in T-shirts and sneakers . . and I have also seen Brides and Grooms wearing long white gowns and tuxedos. Your wedding day should be "a very special day" in your life, and that's why I encourage Brides and Grooms to get "all dressed up" on this memorable day. Wearing something special will make you feel special. And don't forget to order a bouquet for the Bride and a boutonniere for the Groom.

Ten Wedding Traditions That Are More Popular Now Than Twenty Years Ago
The desire to stand out has made several traditions seem way too staid, stuffy, and impersonal. Now we pick and choose our traditions, forcing some to disappear while allowing others to have their moment. Here are some traditions more popular today than they were twenty years ago . .
Father walking the Bride down the aisle
Throwing the bouquet of flowers
Best Man speeches
Bride and Groom cutting the wedding cake
Signing the Guest Book
Party Favors
Bouquet of flowers or corsages for the Mothers of the Bride and Groom
Group photos
Man proposing on one knee
Meanwhile traditions like having a drink before walking down the aisle, asking the Bride's Father for permission to marry, changing into going-away clothes for honeymoons that immediately follow weddings, throwing confetti and decorating cars with "Just Married" signs and carrying Brides over thresholds are nearly extinct. From shine.yahoo.com

Purchase a 3 liter or larger bottle of red wine and ask your wedding guests to sign the bottle when they arrive at the reception. Why the Wedding Kiss?
Part of the ceremony since Roman times when it was the only legal bond - if one of the engaged pair died before the wedding, the other could keep the gifts only if they had already kissed.
The wedding kiss is a symbol of the newlywed's faith and love, respect and obedience to mutual benefits, it grew out of the feudal practice of kissing a lord's ring.

Question from a Bride and Groom . .
Did we have to have an equal number of bridesmaids and groomsmen?
No. No one is going to arrest you if your wedding party is uneven. You do what words for you.
Just recently I was associated with a Bride and Groom who had a Matron of Honor, a Maid of Honor, three bridesmaids and twin Flower Girls. Only a Ring Bearer stood next to the Groom because the Best Man had to cancel out a week before the wedding and there no groomsmen asked.

A toast to the Bride and Groom . .
There is no need to spend $40 on a house brand of champagne or sparkling wine if your wedding guest count is more then ten people. Consider using a prosecco or Spanish Cava for $10 or $12 per bottle.
What would you rather do, buy 20 bottles of a $40 champagne or 20 bottles of a $12 bottle of prosecco?

The wedding toast . .
The toast, well done, is a reflection of the past . .
the present . .
and the future.
A toast should be less than five (5) minutes long and it should not be read verbatim (although having have a note card or index card for reference or review is a good idea).
A good toast is positive, upbeat and communicated with the passion that brought everyone to this moment (the wedding reception).

How should we carry the wedding rings down the aisle?
Colin Cowie suggests . . if your dog is an essential part of your life then ask if it is permissible for he/she to be a member of the wedding party.
Though the exchange of wedding rings is not a tradition in a Greek wedding, having the rings brought out on an olive branch is a great way to put a modern spin on an old tradition.
If you are having a beach wedding, the rings can be brought in on a curved shell or one of the fingers of a starfish.

What is the origin of the Bride carrying flowers?
The use of flowers in the wedding celebration is as old as marriage itself. nearly every type of blossom bears a symbolism that goes back for centuries. Flowering quince was favored by the ancient Greeks who believed nurture the love between a Bride and Groom, while the Romans braided wreaths of marigolds and roses to guarantee love and longevity. The bouquet symbolizes life, growth, and fertility.

Why a Ringbearer?
This custom is typically American and unknown in Europe although he is the successor the the English page boy who still carries the Bride's train in formal weddings at Westminster. Children have always been considered propitious in the wedding party, and in France they carried lighted tapers at the Bride's side. Charles Frederick Worth, who dressed most of the queens of Europe from his house in Paris, is said to have originated the court train, suspended from the shoulders, for the wedding gown. This gave the little train-bearer a definite job to do. But alas, court trains went out of fashion as skirts grew shorter, so the Bride's little nephew was given the wedding ring to carry.

What is photojournalism?
Rather than posing for your pictures (portraiture), the photographer will follow you throughout the day capturing events as they happen. this has become a very popular style of wedding photography and is essentially a series of candid shots. Wedding photojournalism is said to appeal to the Bride and Groom that are looking for a series of unique photographs to "tell the story of the day."
There are drawbacks, as there is usually no pre-planned "shot list." The resulting images can be unpredictable. it is a fact that some couples later regret not opting for the more traditional posed portraits in their wedding album.

Why Ushers or Groomsmen?
Back in the days of "marriage by capture" a young man often brought along some off his strong-minded friends to help fend off his ladylove's brothers. These were the first Ushers or Groomsmen.

What is Portraiture photography?
Portraiture is the most widely used style when photographing weddings. This style is generally used for formal pictures where posting and precision are key. There are benefits to taking this approach. Traditional wedding photographers will follow a "shot list." This means that all of the poses you have decided on in your planning are photographed. There is little chance of missing something. The disadvantage is that the photographer is almost like a "wedding official," by directing the wedding party and guess according to the "shot list." You can get around this by having a designated person in charge of organizing guests for the photographer. This will also help speed up the process and help get the party started. From nuovobride.com

Why a bevy of bridesmaids?
In the old days of marriage by capture, a maiden was guarded by her family to prevent seizure, and in later centuries this little drama was enacted as sort of game at country weddings. The bridegroom, coming for his bride, was confronted by a bevy of maidens all dressed exactly alike. His part of the play was to detect his true love, "forsaking all others," and bear her away to church. as recently as Victorian times, brides' maidens often wore white dresses and even short bridal veils, looking like brides themselves. The best friend was designated first bridesmaid (or Maid of Honor). The Maid of Honor and the Matron on Honor are modern designations in line with our small wedding parties of today.

How did the tradition of wearing a white bridal gown begin?
White is the ceremonial symbol of purity and virtue and hence of maidenhood. It has been so since Biblical times.
About 1820, white became popular for formal occasions, although pastels were in vogue until the end of the century. When Queen Victoria popularized white at her own wedding in 1840, it became the official color for brides.

If you know someone that has proven to be forgetful or unreliable in the past then it is NOT a good idea to make this person an important part of your wedding WITHOUT checking on them.
True wedding story . .
The Bride's Uncle was asked to give her away. The Bride's Uncle lives about one hundred miles from the ceremony city; and this man has worked every Saturday from 7AM to 330PM for the past twenty years. In preparation for his niece's wedding he bought a new dark suit and took that Saturday off. The day of the wedding has come, and Uncle Joe goes into work at his usual 645AM. At 1130AM he sits down to lunch and his boss walks up to him and says, "Joe, what are you doing here? Didn't you take a vacation day today? I thought you were going away?" At that point Joe was hit over the head with a hammer, he was doomed, he totally forgot about Mary's wedding which was scheduled for 1PM, and here he was one hundred miles away. Someone else walked Mary down the aisle.

What can we use to hide "an ugly area" of the reception hall?
Try any or all of the following . .
Ficus trees - poinsettias during the holiday season - ferns - green roping - gladiolas - grapevine - clusters of leaves - forsythia cuttings in the spring - long stem lilies - azaleas - magnolia branches - wisteria - honeysuckle - evergreen plants. And if nothing else works, buy or rent some three paneled screens.

Saying "Thank You"
In a perfect world a Thank You note should be sent out seven to ten days after a pre-wedding event (engagement party, bridal shower, Jack and Jill shower, etc).
In a perfect world a Thank You note should be sent out seven to ten days after receiving the wedding gift if that gift was received before the wedding date.
In a perfect world a Thank You note should be sent out within thirty days of your wedding date for all of the wedding gifts received on your wedding day.
A personal "Thank You" should always be expressed to the giver BUT you still owe the giver a handwritten "Thank You." A personal "Thank You" is only one half of the job.
A pre-printed "Thank You" note is better than not sending any note at all BUT a handwritten is the most appropriate method of saying "Thank You."
You should never mention the amount given if you received a check or cash as a gift. Tell the giver what you intend to do with the money, even if that means putting it in a savings account that has a specific purpose.
Looking for some "Thank You" notes that can be used with a wallet size wedding photo? Try the "Coupled Hearts Thank You Notes at shop.getmarried.com

On more than one occasion I have seen Maid of Honors, bridesmaids and wedding guests walk in an area that is NOT conducive to wearing high heels. Yes, the Bride may have seen the grass when she decided to have her outdoor ceremony or reception at this specific location BUT she never thought about what would happen when you wear high heels in that grassy area.
There is an item that can be put on the heel that will prevent you from getting stuck in a grassy or soft soil area. It's called Sole Mates High Heeler. Check out www.thesolemates.com. Information obtained from shop.getmarried.com "smart fixes."

A Bride's Mother asked how the tradition of giving a Bride a bridal or wedding shower started.
This tradition evolved from Holland when a Father disapproved of his daughter's choice of a husband. The villagers gathered to "shower" her with the dowry and gifts her Father refused to give her.

Why is the wedding ring put on the third finger of the left hand?
The ancients believed that a special vein, which they called a "vena amoris" or vein of love, ran from the finger directly to the heart. By putting on a fitted ring, the affections were bound in and could never flow out the finger tips. Also, this finger - although not the smallest on the hand - is the weakest and most dependent on the others for help in lifting and holding. It seemed to symbolize the young wife supported by the strength of her husband. The ring finger has sometimes been on the left hand, sometimes on the right hand, according to country and custom. Among English-speaking persons, it has been on the left since the edict of Edward VI in 1549.

Why a Wedding Band?
Wedding bands, symbolized eternal love by their lack of beginning or end, grew out of the ancient tradition of using circlets of grass to decorate a Bride's wrists and ankles. Although not required to validate a marriage under a civil law, rings were required in the 16th century by the Council of Trent. The circular shape symbolizes eternity.

As a couple about to be engaged or an engaged couple or newlyweds, I suggest that you become a member of Costco for the following reasons . .
You can buy engagement rings.
You can buy health insurance, it acts like a middle man to match members with the appropriate insurance company (ies).
Secure a mortgage. You can save a substantial amount on lender fees from national lenders that have an agreement with Costco.
Wedding dress. Kirstie Kelly will be selling six exclusive wedding gowns for about 40% off their retail price at trunk shows throughout the country. The gowns will be ranging in price from $700 to $1400, ranging in sizes from 2 to 24.
Wedding paper goods and decorations. Costco is selling everything from fresh flowers to printed wedding invitation kits.
Honeymoon or vacation. By becoming a member of Costco Travel you can get some great rates on cruises, theme parks, rental cars, and hotels plus honeymoon packages.
Yes, buying a membership is definitely worth it!

Question from a Bride and Groom . .
When are we legally married?
Response . .
When you say, "I do," you did. The Certificate of Marriage goes straight from the hands of the Officiant/Clergy Man or Woman to the County Clerk's Office (either by mail or dropped off). If you are having "second thoughts" about being married right after the ceremony there are no exceptions, no loopholes, and no grace period. You, the Bride and Groom, have made a verbal legal contract during the ceremony, and once the Officiant has declared you "wed" and the paperwork confirms that, you are "legally married." Problems that occur after that are between you, your spouse, and the state. The Officiant cannot "undo" what was already done (whether it was two hours ago or the previous day).

Question from a Bride and Groom . .
We gave an officiant a deposit check for $100 to officiate our wedding. The check did not
clear, it was our fault. And now the officiant is telling us that we broke the contract and he will not
conduct our ceremony. Can he do that?
Response . .
Giving someone a check that is insufficient is like not giving them any money at all.

There are many Brides and Grooms who are fortunate to have "everything they need" so they ask their guests to donate to a charity in lieu of a purchased gift. Here's some websites that may help you, the Bride and Groom, determine what cause or nonprofit organization you would like to support.
Charity.com . . Easy to use listings and contact information for thousands of charity and nonprofit groups, updated daily.
Charitynavigator.org . . This site offers unbiased ratings and background information to help you learn about a charity before you contribute to it. Also, includes a vast charity directory and top 10 lists.
Just recently I was associated with a Bride and Groom who made a donation to the burn unit of a hospital in lieu of table favors. The donation was stated on the Ceremony Program and on the wedding gift table.

Question from a Bride and Groom . . Do we have to have a reception?
Response . .
A reception is not expected if your ceremony takes place in a Court House setting or in a private setting.
Your guests will expect some type of reception if you are getting married in a house of worship or some other type of formal setting. A reception is more than a tray full of cheese and crackers, Italian wedding soup, a chicken dinner, and wedding cake with lots of icing . . it is the Bride and Groom's opportunity to say "Thank You for coming to our wedding" to your friends and family members.

Question from a Bride . .
My friends and I would rather have a "Pajama Party" or "Girls Night In" than bachelorette party.
Could you give me some ideas or suggestions on what to do?
Response: Have a pizza cook-off. Create some teams. Each team would bring their own ingredients to the party. The hostess would provide the pizza dough (which can be purchased from local pizza shops or grocery stores).
Each person brings some "Hollywood gossip" from a magazine or news show or off the internet.
Bring some CDs that feature "the oldies but goodies" from the 50s and 60s or 70s. Dance . . dance . . dance to the music!
Ask your guest to bring their favorite board games. Break into teams. The team with the most points at the end of the evening wins a prize.
Give each other manicures or pedicures. Ask your guests to bring their favorite nail polish color. The hostess would provide polish remover, nail files, etc.
Ask each person to bring their favorite DVD movie in a specific category.

For those Brides who were given "pearls" to wear on their wedding day . .
Pearl of Wisdom . .
No need to call the pros - cleaning your pearls (necklace or bracelet or earrings) is very easy to do at home.
Wipe them off with a dry cotton cloth after wearing them. "If they become visibly dirty, dilute a teaspoon of Woolite in a quart of water. Immerse your pearls for 10 to 15 seconds, dab them with a soft cotton cloth and lay them flat to dry," says Kathy Higginbotham, Silpada Designs' director of quality control.
Store them in a cotton bag - never plastic - separate them from other jewelry.
To ensure that they stay lustrous, think outside the jewelry box. Wearing them regularly will keep them polished, thanks to your body's natural oils. Amanda Greene Womans Day Magazine April 1, 2010

HONEYSUCKLE - COLOR OF THE YEAR
Pantone, the international leader and trendsetter on color, announced in December 2010, that Pantone 18-2120 Honeysuckle is the "it" color for 2011. Honeysuckle is a very energizing, dynamic, and engaging color that can't help but get the adrenaline going - - a good color to ward off the "blues!" says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. And what does honeysuckle look like? Similar to raspberry or azalea or hot pink.

Why are diamonds used as engagement rings?
The diamond was called the Venus stone by the ancients who compared its shining beauty with the planet Venus in the evening sky. Like this goddess, who as dedicated to love, the diamond in time became associated with sweethearts, and its mysterious inner fire was likened to the equally mysterious fires of passion. The Greeks called it "adamas" - eternal or unchanging, a declaration as to the depths of their emotions.
According to history, the diamond as an engagement ring began in 1477 with Maximilian of Austria and Mary Burgundy. Max asked one of his councilors for advice in proposing to Mary. The councilor told him to give her a diamond. Max took the advice and proposed, slipping a diamond ring on her third finger. Mary said, "Yes" and a tradition was born.

How did "being engaged" begin?
Before coinage, gold rings were circulated as currency. By giving a gold ring to his Bride, a man showed he trusted her with his property. Under Roman law, the ring was a sign of security, protecting the interests of the Bride-to-be. In Elizabethan times, an interlocking set of three rings was used and worn during the engagement period by the Bride, the Groom, and the witness at the wedding. The three rings would be placed on the Bride's finger during the wedding ceremony. Diamond rings became popular in the 19th century.

An engraved inscription gracing the inside of a wedding band can be a powerful declaration of hope and love, whether it's simply initials and the wedding date or a few carefully chosen and cherished words. the inscription can be a classic quote, a word, phrase or nickname that only has meaning for the couple, making the ring a truly unique symbol of love.
Here is a collection on inscriptions from ancient to modern, all with timeless appeal . .
From classical times "Semper amemus" (Our love is forever)
From Medieval quotes "Aute ne veux" (I think of none other)
From the 17th and 18th Centuries "You and I will lovers die"
Modern phrases "Love is eternal"

Question from a Bride and Groom . .
Can a couple of different faiths, one being Jewish, sign a Ketubah?
Response . .
I have married several couples of different faiths. In the past I have married a Christian Bride and a Jewish Groom, the Groom asked to have a "breaking of the glass" ceremony at the end of the wedding but no Ketubah (a marriage contract or a prenuptial agreement) was signed. I also married a Jewish Bride and a Christian Groom who had the Bride's brother read the Ketubah during the ceremony; and then the document was signed after the Bride and Groom were pronounced "Man and Wife." Both the Bride's family and the Groom's family plus their wedding attendants witnessed the Bride and Groom signing the document.
I was told recently by another wedding professional, "When you are not married by a Rabbi, you are making up your own rules."

Question from a Bride and Groom . .
What are some Irish traditions or customs that we can incorporate into our March wedding?
Answer . .
The Bride and Groom are showered with flower petals for good luck.
The claddagh (wedding ring) is fashioned with two hands holding a heart with a crown above; when the hands are worn facing in, the Bride is married.
Dances at the reception include the Groom in a "jaunting car" (chair) to present him to the wedding guests as a married man.
