What is the origin of the rehearsal dinner or party?
Parties were held on the wedding eve to chase away the evil spirits. The more noise the better!

Question from a Bride and Groom . .
One of our grandmothers is giving us her china set as a wedding gift and we are thrilled with this generous gift. There are about six pieces that are either missing or chipped. Someone told us that there is a big store down south that carries missing china pieces, do you know the name?
Contact REPLACEMENTS, LTD in Greensboro, NC. They carry a HUGE inventory of china, crystal, and silver (old and new). I strongly suggest registering the pattern that you are trying to complete with them via their website http://www.replacements.com/ or by calling them 1-800-737-5223. Once you register the pattern that you are trying to complete you will get updates on what they have available and the prices. I have taken a tour of this facility and I was extremely impressed by their knowledge, efficiency, and organization.

For those of you Brides and Groom who are going on your first "adult" trip here's some tipping (or gratuity) advice . .
Airport skycap . . $1 to $3 per bag. Large or bulky items (like a golf bag) deserve an extra dollar or two.
Bellhop . . $1 to $2 per bag. If your suitcase is on the heavy side or extra large, tip an extra $1.
Food delivery from a restaurant or food business warrants 10 to 15% of the bill before any local taxes.
Hotel housekeeper deserves $2 per night at a "budget" hotel or $3 to $5 per night at a "nice" hotel.
Shuttle bus driver . . $1 to $2 per bag. Tip this driver if they wait for you or helps you with your luggage or helps you get to your destination quickly.
Valet parking attendant . . $1 to $3 in towns or small cities. $3 to $5 in large cities. If you are driving a SUV, then add another $1 or two due to its difficulty in parking.

Attended a Weddings of Venice meeting on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Bentley's Resort Hotel in Osprey. We were given a tour of the new LUXURIOUS suites at Bentley's after the meeting. All three room settings that we were shown were impressive. Applause Applause to Bentley's Resort Hotel for their multi-room, multi-area renovation.

From Kate Sullivan of Nuovo Bride Magazine
"Nothing completes the circle of love more than using recycled paper to post your big day plans. But what do you need to know before picking up this eco-friendly trend?
When browsing for planet-pleasing paper. Jennifer Stambolsky found of EartlyAffair.com (an earth friendly paperie), says, "look for sheets that are 100 percent post-consumer, meaning it has the highest recycled content that you can get."

If someone gave you $25,000 at your engagement party, what would you do with it? Plan a big, traditional wedding? Sign up for a simple beach ceremony and a two week honeymoon in Hawaii? Or put a down payment on a home? You can only make one choice, no combinations.

How did the Bachelor Party or Dinner start?
I dates back to the Spartan Groom, who always invited his close friends to a supper on the eve of his wedding to celebrate and to reminisce about his past. Traditionally, it was also held to raise money for the bridegroom so he would be able to continue to drink with his buddies after his wife took control of the finances. Mainly, however, it was a mourning for the passing of the man's bachelor status.

Question from Bride and Groom . .
Do peole get dressed up for weddings at the Court House?
I have seen "anything and everything" at this location. I have seen Brides and Grooms dressed in T-shirts and sneakers . . and I have also seen Brides and Grooms wearing long white gowns and tuxedos. Your wedding day should be "a very special day" in your life, and that's why I encourage Brides and Grooms to get "all dressed up" on this memorable day. Wearing something special will make you feel special. And don't forget to order a bouquet for the Bride and a boutonniere for the Groom.

Universal Wedding Registry . .
Why bother with multiple bridal registries when you can add all your favorite items from any store in the world to one massive list?
MyRegistry.com provides smartphone apps that allow couples to scan products for the best prices.
Advice . . to avoid gift confusion and duplication only select one specific item from one store. There is no reason to select the same food processor from three different stores.

Question of the week . .
If someone gave you $10,000 to "go away to get married" instead of having a hometown traditional wedding with friends and family members (and all the stress that goes with having a "big" wedding) would you go away?

Ten Wedding Traditions That Are More Popular Now Than Twenty Years Ago
The desire to stand out has made several traditions seem way too staid, stuffy, and impersonal. Now we pick and choose our traditions, forcing some to disappear while allowing others to have their moment. Here are some traditions more popular today than they were twenty years ago . .
Father walking the Bride down the aisle
Throwing the bouquet of flowers
Best Man speeches
Bride and Groom cutting the wedding cake
Signing the Guest Book
Party Favors
Bouquet of flowers or corsages for the Mothers of the Bride and Groom
Group photos
Man proposing on one knee
Meanwhile traditions like having a drink before walking down the aisle, asking the Bride's Father for permission to marry, changing into going-away clothes for honeymoons that immediately follow weddings, throwing confetti and decorating cars with "Just Married" signs and carrying Brides over thresholds are nearly extinct. From shine.yahoo.com

Question from a Bride and Groom . .
Is it OK to hand deliver Thank You notes (from a recent bridal shower) and wedding invitations at a family reunion? We certainly could save some money by not having to buy a lot of stamps plus there are several addresses we do not have.
Answer . . No, it is not OK to hand deliver notes and/or invitations BUT it is a good time to obtain the correct addresses that you need.
