Whether you make your own homemade version or purchase several family size pans, Lasagna is one of the most well-liked and economical meals that you can serve your guests at a bridal luncheon or at a home engagement party or at a casual rehearsal dinner or at a self-catered small reception.  Just add an assortment of breads and a green salad.  You can usually get ten to twelve servings from a 13 X 9 size pan.

Extra large serving pans can be found at restaurant supply stores and big box stores like Costco's and Sam's Club.  Family size pans of frozen lasagna can be found at stores like Sam's Club and Costco"s.
And it also possible to order pans of meat and vegetarian lasagna from a local caterer or grocery store.

Several years ago I officiated a wedding ceremony inside a gazebo which was located in a community park.  About an hour before the ceremony began, the Bride's sixteen year old brother walked around the back of the gazebo where an electrical receptacle was located to set up the audio system for the microphone and music.  Well, surprise, surprise he discovered a wasp nest right near the outlet.  I will never forget the hollering and screaming from this young man as he ran from the back of the gazebo.  Yes, he had been stung several times by the wasps.  Thank goodness I had two bottles of frozen water with me that could be used as a cold compress on some of the stings immediately.  And even though this young man was not allergic to wasp stings he was taken to the Emergency Department at a near-by hospital for medical treatment.  The wedding was delayed until he and his Father returned from the hospital.

So, for those of you who are staging an outdoor bridal shower . . engagement party . . rehearsal . . rehearsal dinner or party . . ceremony and/or reception . . day-after brunch . .  or renewal of vows event, I strongly suggest purchasing at least two packages of AfterBite or SKEETER STIK as a precautionary measure. These items are small enough to fit into a handbag or a jacket pocket or pants pocket.

Both of these items can be used for insect bites, stings, and skin irrations.  They can be found in just about any store that carries "first aid" items.  I also found these items in Walmart's camping supplies department.

Hokendauqua, PA.  Authorities say an eastern Pennsylvania woman stabbed her fiance' to death during an argument on their wedding day.  The stabbing took place about seven hours before the scheduled ceremony.

WOW!  This Bride won't be using any of her wedding gifts.  Matter-of-fact, she won't even get a chance to put on her bridal gown or taste the wedding cake.

Does the shape of a bottle of wine mean anything?

Traditionally, certain bottles shapes hold specific wine styles, especially when it comes to European wines.  Although some New World winemakers are bucking this trend , if you're buying from established brands.

Tall, narrow (Example # 1) . . contains mostly crisp wines, such as German or Alsatian whites.

Slope-shouldered (Example # 2) . . are typical to subtler wines like pinot noir, chardonnay or syrah.

High-shouldered (Example #3) . . most likely hold heavier reds and lighter whites, like sauvignon blanc.

Want to serve some wine at your engagement party that's taking place at your fiancees' parents' home, and you don't know anything about wine?

Look for the alcohol level.  A peek at this percentage will tip you off to how heavy the wine will feel in your mouth.  Ten percent should feel similar to water; 12 to 13 percent can feel like skim milk; and 15% or higher will have the body of whole milk.

Ignore cute critters.  Animal labels are trying to appeal to casual wine drinkers.

The words "ancient" or "old vines" on a label may mean that the grapevines are decades old.  These tend to produce few grapes and concentrated juice, so the bottles may have strong flavors.

Ignore phantom grape types.  If you don't see any recognizable words like "Merlot" or "Chardonnay," that doesn't mean the wine isn't one.  Wines from Europe, the so-called Old World, are often labeled by origin rather than grape style.  Ask a store clerk for identification help.

Look for flavor clues.  The back label is often full of hints to the wine's taste so make sure you turn the bottle over.  Descriptors like "vanilla"  . . "smoke" . . and "nutmeg" indicate that it has a woodier taste.  Words like "zesty" . . "racy" . . and "tangy" suggest a fresher, brighter style.
