Did you just get engaged?
If you plan to formally announce your engagement it should be done within six weeks of the proposal. The couple should NOT host their own engagement party or dinner unless there are no other alternatives. The couple are THE HONORED GUESTS not the host and hostess.
If the Bride's parents are not able to host the party or dinner then it is acceptable and appropriate for the Groom's parents or a member of the Groom's family to host the dinner or party.
The dinner or party can be as formal as a five course dinner at a hotel for just the immediate family members OR as simple as a Sunday afternoon open house with punch and cookies for friends, neighbors, co-workers and family members.
