The people from "Real Simple" Magazine tested several blenders (Yahoo Home Page).  The 5 speed Kitchen Aid was rated overall Number 1, this item cost about $100.

The Best Budget Blender was the Oster 12 speed with a food processor attachment.  As of this date, June 25, 2012, this blender can be found at walmart.com for about $40 and it can be ordered on-line.  The average price of a bridal shower gift is $35 so put it on your list.
