Contrary to popular belief, one does not have to give "a diamond ring" to their "partner" be engaged to be married. There are many couples who choose not to give "a sparkling ring" or could not afford to give "a fancy ring" as part of the proposal or decision to get married.
Sometimes, just saying the words . ."Will You Marry Me" is enough.
